Say When review – Keira Knightley stars in fluffy, disposable rom-com

SAY WHEN

If you can get past the nightmarishly kooky-cute poster and the uncomfortably problematic set-up (jumpy twentysomething runs away from her life for a week-long sleepover with a troubled teen), there are light and fluffy pleasures to be had from this disposable rom-com, entitled Laggies in the US. It’s certainly less irksome than director Lynn Shelton’s previous work, Touchy-Feely, although a little more of the emotional substance of Your Sister’s Sister wouldn’t go amiss. Keira Knightley acts with her teeth, Sam Rockwell with his hair and Chlöe Grace Moretz with her shoulders (all adolescent shrugs) as the uncertain fiancee, depressed dad and anxious daughter respectively. All make for entirely pleasant company, although there’s nothing to match the charm of Begin Again, which did a far better job of showcasing Knightley’s increasingly offbeat talents.
