Say what? CBS Sports analysts believe Bears will finish last in NFC North in 2020

It’s no secret that there aren’t many people that are confident in the Chicago Bears, outside of the organization, heading into this season. And they’re justified in their thinking, especially considering they had one of the worst offenses in the NFL last season.

But there’s a fine line between a lack of confidence and ignorance in regards to some of these season predictions. It seems some people just love to hate on the Bears, so obviously they’re piling on them ahead of their Week 1 opener against the Detroit Lions.

CBS Sports analysts came to an unanimous agreement that the Bears will finish dead last in the NFC North in 2020.

Seriously.

Honestly, considering how many things went wrong last season — an abysmal offense, a slew of injuries — the Bears still managed to finish 8-8. So with some improvements on both offense and defense, it’s hard to imagine Chicago doing worse than they did a year ago.

So if these CBS analysts all have the Bears finishing in last place — you’d expect no worse than 8-8 from an improved team — does that mean the NFC North will have four teams with at least eight wins?

Look, these pre-season record predictions don’t mean a darn thing. We saw how mostly everyone had the Bears pegged as either repeat division champions or runners up with around 10 wins. And we saw how that worked out.

At the very least, the Bears have some bulletin board material as they head into a season where they’re determined to prove that last year was a fluke rather than the expectation.

But this isn’t the first time analysts have severely underestimated the Bears — 2018 season, anyone? — and it certainly won’t be the last.

It’s a good thing the Bears seem to thrive in the underdog role.
