The bar nearest the iconic Barrowlands has been given a new lease of life - and as of tomorrow, we’ll all be able to see the makeover happening at 226 Gallowgate.
The former Bairds Bar doesn’t have a new name, relying instead on its well-known address and, if teaser photos of the food is anything to go by, then some incredible sandwiches too.
The place has been given a huge overhaul, with photos of the refurb shared on Facebook ahead of tomorrow’s (Thursday) big launch date.
The 226 Gallowgate website reads: “Glasgow's Gallowgate is evolving. One of Scotland's best-known pubs has a new lease of life, standing strong and proud next to the Barrowland Ballroom, ready to offer you a truly unique and warm welcome.
“226 Gallowgate is the location, not the name. Formerly Bairds Bar, the site has been an integral part of the life and personality of the Barras for decades, and has seen a rich and varied history.
“This bar with no name is considered the place that doesn’t need one!”
The new pub promises to use profits to fund east end regeneration projects, and there’s a food menu too, covering cooked breakfasts, lunchtime and gig time sandwiches and a pub grub mains section for the evening.
Stand-out dishes include salt beef fritters with reuben sauce and sauerkraut, as well as old-fashioned classics like boiled gammon and buttered cabbage.
