It's a sad year for the Dead by Daylight community. We've lost Pinhead, and at the beginning of 2026 we will be losing the Shape as well. As announced by BHVR, the Halloween license will be officially removed from DBD on January 16, 2026.
So what does this mean for people who have already purchased the chapter? Don't worry, we'll get to keep both Mikey and Laurie, and Mikey will still be a playable Killer. However, no additional purchases of this license will be possible after the date. If you haven't grabbed the chapter yet, wait for the Last Sale and grab it at a cheaper price! Their original perk will be moved to the General Pool and their names will be changed:
The Shape’s Perks
- Save The Best For Last -> Keep Them Waiting
- Play With Your Food -> See How They Run
- Dying Light -> Cull The Weak
Laurie Strode’s Perks
- Sole Survivor -> Down To The Last
- Object of Obsession -> Bound by Obsession
- Decisive Strike – Will To Live
On top of that, the Haddonfield realm will be fully removed from the game as well. While a generally smaller map, the verticality of it was always fun (compared to the Gideon Meat Plant). You will no longer be able to visit the Strode family home or stalk from the rooftops (whether Survivor or Killer).

While the Killer and Survivor will still show up, it will definitely be a major loss to the game. Halloween was the first ever licensed chapter added to Dead by Daylight, shaking up the concept of the game entirely. A Killer that could stalk you completely silently, no heartbeat, and then one-shot down you with the side of jumpscare? Unheard of until that moment. Fog and Moon offerings were a must, along with Spine Chill back in the day.
Even at that time, DBD was becoming less scary, especially for us who have packed hours upon hours into the game, and the introduction of Michael Myers really reintroduced the scare factor. Now we have a slough of stalkers, and absolutely bone-chilling Killers like the Unknown and the Krasue, but you can't beat the OG. It's especially sadder considering the fact that Mikey had just gotten a rework too.
The timing is right though, considering there is a new Halloween game in development. It would make sense that they would remove any outside licenses, just like with Pinhead. It doesn't make sense from a business standpoint to have your iconic Killer in both your own asymmetrical horror game, and in DBD. A big shoutout to the The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game though, for letting DBD keep Bubba (even though I hate him and he makes me want to rage quit every time I see him).
However, there is hope yet. The Stranger Things chapter was at one point removed too, and now it's back and we are even getting a Part 2 in January. That means that there is a chance we will see the return of the Haddonfield map, purchasable Mikey and Laurie, as well as all of their cosmetics. No one really escapes the Entity after all.
