Say cheese: 'Car surfing' mouse hitches a lift

A tiny mouse had a narrow squeak when it was spotted clinging onto a car windscreen. Jim Stewart, 53, was driving along a dark Scottish country lane Saturday (March 19) when he noticed the hitch-hiking critter.

The Church of Scotland minister managed to quickly pull over and let the car surfing mouse safely escape into a nearby field. Jim, from Perth, explains: “We were visiting American friends at their Airbnb in Moneydie, Perth and coming home we noticed our little friend.

“As we drove along the dirt track, in the moonlight, I thought I saw a leaf on the car bonnet. It wasn’t a leaf; it was a most lovely wee field mouse hitching a ride.

“We stopped and helped the wee beastie off the car and onto freedom in the field. We were parked for a couple of hours at the cottage and I think it was quite cold outside - I assume the warm car bonnet was a toasty option.”
