Sax star comes to town

Muangboran, the great outdoor museum in Samut Prakan, will be the venue for an exclusive concert by contemporary saxophone superstar Kenny G on Nov 10 from 5pm.

"Jazz Night With Kenny G At Muangboran" brings together classic architecture and the global star for a first-of-its-kind event in the Kingdom. The concert aims to raise funds for the construction of Navamindrapobitr 84th Anniversary Building at the Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital.

The backdrop to the show will be the beautiful replica of Sanphet Prasat Palace, modelled after the Ayutthaya original. This grand setting will provide a classic balance to the smooth jazz numbers to be performed by the 62-year-old American saxophonist.

Kenny G's show on the night will cover the artist's full repertoire of jazz styles -- smooth, standard, bossa nova and Latin -- as well as new material scheduled for release at the end of the year.

Kenny G is one of the best-selling musicians of all time, with global sales of over 75 million records. He has 18 studio albums under his belt, from his self-titled debut in 1982 to his most recent effort, Brazilian Nights, in 2015.

Sharing the stage with him on the night will be Mahidol University Jazz Ensemble, CU Band of Chulalongkorn University and Rangsit University Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Den Yuprasert. Tickets cost 1,500, 3,000 and 4,500 baht and can be purchased from Thai Ticket Major booths (visit thaiticketmajor.com or call 02-262-3456).
