Savvy trick that could unlock Asda, Tesco, Aldi, Lidl and Morrisons trolleys without £1 or token

It's that moment of dread we've all had - you don't have a £1 coin to unlock the shopping trolley.

To compound matters, you also don't own a trolley token and now you face doing the weekly shop using just a basket.

You've got options - either break your arms stuffing as much as you can into said basket or you can muster the courage to ask a stranger to lend you a quid. Neither sound desirable.

But now, thanks to one savvy shopper, there is a third option - which will save your arms and pride, CambridgeshireLive reports.

Sharing their tip on the Latest Deals, Extreme Couponing & Bargains Facebook group, they wrote:"If you don't have a pound coin or a trolley coin put 2 20s together & boom it will work."

But, as with so many things in life, there is a (quite literal) catch.

While some group members were keen to give it a go, others explained that they'd already tried - and the two coins had a habit of getting stuck.

Putting two 20ps into a trolley could unlock one, if you don't have a pound or token handy (Facebook)

"I was embarrassed in Aldi as I did this they got stuck and jammed and a manager had to come out to fix it, very very embarrassing "

While another said: "Tried this and it works but I couldn't get my 20ps back [it] jammed the trolley."

One person also posted: "The key off corned beef tins work, used them for months now."

Apparently house keys also work a treat too, although at this point, buying a token seems like the most straightforward option.
