Savvy mum shares hack to cut clothes drying time - and it's completely free

Many of us are still trying to keep our energy bills low by using our household appliances sparingly, but this can often lead to us having piles of clothes that just never seem to dry - especially if we're not using our tumble dryers as often as normal.

Thankfully though, one mum has said there is a way to make your tumble dryer use less energy so that you can still use it to dry your clothes, but the process will be faster than your usual cycle.

Carolina McCauley, from Australia, shared a video on Instagram in which she explained that all you need to do is add a clean and dry towel to your tumble dryer at the start of the cycle, and simply let the towel soak up some of the excess moisture from your clothes.

After 15 minutes, you can take the towel out so that the tumble dryer doesn't work overtime trying to dry it.

In her video, posted on her @carolina.mccauley account, the mum said: "How to speed up laundry drying time. If you add a clean, dry towel at the beginning of your drying cycle and then start the dryer, the towel helps to absorb moisture.

"Remove the towel after 15 minutes, [and] this cuts drying time by 30%."

And in the caption, she wrote: "If you're tired of waiting for clothes to dry, try this super fast drying hack!"

Commenters on the post were quick to praise Carolina for her helpful hack, with many saying the trick "really helps" for cutting down on the time it takes to dry clothes - and in turn, cutting down energy bills.

One person said: "I've been doing that since I learned it over here. It really helps! Thanks a lot!!!"

While another added: "Wow, where have I been?"

And a third wrote: "Great tip!"

Meanwhile, one commenter even added their own helpful tip for removing creases from clothes, as they said if you stick your dry clothes in the tumble dryer along with a damp towel, the water should help to steam out the creases.

They posted: "Yes! Also, if your clean clothes are wrinkled because you didn't hang them up or fold them yet, you can toss them into the dryer with a clean damp washcloth or hand towel and tumble dry to steam out the wrinkles."
