A Savills estate agent worker has been suspended after racist tweets were aimed at England players on social media.
The property company said it was investigating tweets on the staff member's account which showed vile racist comments directed towards some of the Three Lions stars.
But the employee has claimed the abuse came from a third party using their profile.
The man has now been suspended while police probe the tweets, reports The Mirror.
It comes after Three Lions lost in the final of Euro 2020 on penalties to Italy, with Bukayo Saka missing the decisive kick.
Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka all missed from 12 yards, with the latter's failure to score sealing victory for the Azzurri.
The trio were later subjected to abuse on social media.
One of those who appeared to target the England stars works for Savills, according to his online profiles on social media, although the tweets have since been deleted.
Savills signalled their intent to launch an investigation and have subsequently suspended the individual in question.
A statement read: "Savills confirms that the staff member connected with the racist comments placed on Twitter claims that his Twitter account was taken over by a third party and that the matter is being referred to the Greater Manchester Police.
"Savills has acted swiftly and confirms the individual is suspended from duty pending the findings of this investigation, which is being progressed as a priority."
The estate agent added: "Savills is committed to eliminating discrimination and encouraging diversity amongst our workforce.
"A full investigation will be carried out in regards to this unacceptable incident.
"Savills abhors and has zero tolerance to any form of racism and racial discrimination and is appalled by the racist comments in these tweets.
"Savills is immediately investigating and will take appropriate action"
The English FA was quick to condemn the incident and said: "We could not be clearer that anyone behind such disgusting behaviour is not welcome in following the team.
"We will do all we can to support the players affected while urging the toughest punishments possible for anyone responsible.
"We will continue to do everything we can to stamp discrimination out of the game, but we implore government to act quickly and bring in the appropriate legislation so this abuse has real life consequences.
"Social media companies need to step up and take accountability and action to ban abusers from their platforms, gather evidence that can lead to prosecution and support making their platforms free from this type of abhorrent abuse."
Gareth Southgate also offered his support, saying: "It's just not what we stand for.
"We have been a beacon of light in bringing people together, in people being able to relate to the national team, and the national team stands for everybody, and so that togetherness has to continue."
