Savills estate agent worker suspended after alleged racist tweets aimed at England players

Savills estate agents have suspended a worker after he posted racist abuse towards the England football team's players on social media.

The estate agents announced this morning that it would conduct a "full investigation" after the vile racist tweets were allegedly posted by one of its employees.

The team's defeat against Italy at Wembley Stadium last night prompted an outburst of racist posts all over social media, chiefly attacking the three young black players - Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka - who missed decisive penalty kicks during the game's tense climactic shootout, The Mirror reports.

A statement read: "Savills confirms that the staff member connected with the racist comments placed on Twitter claims that his Twitter account was taken over by a third party and that the matter is being referred to the Greater Manchester Police.

"Savills has acted swiftly and confirms the individual is suspended from duty pending the findings of this investigation, which is being progressed as a priority."

One of the alleged tweets used the 'N word'.

The FA were quick to condemn the incident, insisting they were "appalled" before saying: "We could not be clearer that anyone behind such disgusting behaviour is not welcome in following the team.

"We will do all we can to support the players affected while urging the toughest punishments possible for anyone responsible.

"We will continue to do everything we can to stamp discrimination out of the game, but we implore government to act quickly and bring in the appropriate legislation so this abuse has real life consequences.

"Social media companies need to step up and take accountability and action to ban abusers from their platforms, gather evidence that can lead to prosecution and support making their platforms free from this type of abhorrent abuse."

Gareth Southgate also offered his support, saying: "It's just not what we stand for.

"We have been a beacon of light in bringing people together, in people being able to relate to the national team, and the national team stands for everybody, and so that togetherness has to continue."
