Saved by the Bell: First trailer for reboot of classic sitcom released

The first trailer for the forthcoming reboot of Saved by the Bellhas been released.

Original stars Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley are among the main cast for the revival, which once again takes place in California's Bayside High.

The series sees fellow original cast member Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who does not appear in the teaser trailer, return as Zack Morris, who is now working as a local politician. He is forced to merge two high schools amid a local government scandal, leading to a clash between the town’s rich and poor teenagers.

“Remember how fun high school used to be?” Lopez’s AC Slater says in the trailer, which reveals he is working as a gym teacher at Bayside High.

“Can you believe that was like 30 years ago?” Berkley’s Jessie Spano replies.

New cast members for the reboot include Josie Totah, Dexter Darden and Mitchell Hoog, who is playing Zack’s jock son Mac.

In February, actor Lark Voorhies, who portrayed over-achiever Lisa Turtle on the original series, said she felt “slighted and hurt” not be included in the revival.

“I have to admit I did feel a bit slighted and hurt when I was not invited to be a part of the Saved By the Bell reunion, as well as other cast members’ events,” she said during an appearance on US talk show Dr Oz.

She also said that she believes her bipolar disorder may have been the cause for the snub, adding: “I also realise having this puzzling disorder may have played a major part in that factual decision.”

New US streaming platform Peacock will unveil the revival of the classic sitcom later this year.

A UK release date has yet to be confirmed.
