'Save us' - Newcastle United fans go wild as Callum Wilson issues injury update

Newcastle United fans have reacted with delight after Callum Wilson's latest injury update.

The influential forward has been out of action since February 6 after suffering a hamstring injury against Southampton.

Newcastle are winless in six games after his injury, losing three and drawing three, with Steve Bruce's side plunged into a relegation battle.

Yet Wilson returned to training recently and is reportedly set to feature in an 11-a-side practice match this week ahead of facing Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Earlier today, Wilson tweeted that he could not wait to get back playing and it sparked plenty of agreement from Magpies fans.

Wilson's return would be a huge boost for Newcastle, who have struggled to find the net since the 10-goal forward's injury.

Fellow attacker Allan Saint-Maximin is also expected to be involved in the training match, having also been absent recently with a groin injury.

Having the pair of highly influential attackers return to action in time for the crucial end-of-season run-in would be a much-needed piece of good news for Bruce, whose side went into the current international break on the back of a dismal 3-0 defeat to relegation rivals Brighton & Hove Albion on March 20.

The international break came at the right time for Wilson to return to training without missing any more matches.

Speaking after the defeat to Brighton, Bruce said the break meant players would be given more of a chance to return to fitness.

"It comes at a good time in terms of that it gives us time to see where we are with injuries, that's for sure," he said.

"We'll see where we are in 10 days' time. We've got six or seven away. We'll go back to work and get ready for the next challenge."
