Save Gorgie Farm campaign smashes £100k target after final boost from anonymous donor

The fundraiser to save Gorgie Farm has smashed its £100,000 target just weeks after it was first set up after a final £5,000 anonymous donation.

The crowdfunder was launched to save the farm after the shock announcement of its closure earlier this month, which came "out of the blue" to staff, residents and councillors .

The much-loved  Edinburgh charity had been operating for 40 years and also helps disadvantaged young people and adults through assisted work placements.

The campaign received a huge boost after an anonymous Samaritan who donated £20,000 and were within reaching distance of its fundraising target just days ago after .

A £5,000 donation has now pushed them over the line and campaigners took to social media to share the good news, writing: "We did it. In under 4 weeks we have raised £101,040. This afternoon we had another huge anonymous donation of £5,000.

"There's been tears, many tears and there's been a whole lot of determination. Watch this space. For now we breathe."

Reacting to the news, council leader Adam McVey said: "This is amazing, thanks to all those who have donated to support Gorgie Farm!

"We’re working with the liquidator to establish a preferred bidder in the coming weeks."

Edinburgh councillors have also , to give the liquidator time to find a preferred bidder after ten organisations showed interest in "taking over" .
