Savage brawl breaks out after former MLB star smacks opponent with baseball bat

A fierce brawl broke out during a Venezuelan baseball game after former Major League Baseball star Alex Romero attacked an opponent with his bat.

The incident erupted after Romero struck the opposing catcher after he was hit by a pitch.

The fight broke out with the game in the eighth inning, as Caribes de Anzoategui eased their way to a 13-2 win over Aguilas del Zulia.

The game was a heated affair, with four ejections in the seventh inning, but what was to happen next nobody could have predicted.

Romero, who played played for MLB outfit Arizona Diamondbacks in 2008 and 2009, was hit in the back by a pitch from Angel Nesbitt.

But Romero chose not to unleash his wrath on the pitcher, but catcher Gabriel Lino who was kneeling behind him.

In the video posted online, Romero can be seen with his bat cocked, waiting for the pitch.

The pitch comes in and hits him on the rear, but for reasons unclear, he then turns around and begins to clobber the helpless catcher.

Nevertheless, catcher Lino fights back. Inevitably, in a game that had already been somewhat heated, both teams rushed in to support their team mates.

In a matter of seconds, the entire bench of both sides are on the field fighting amongst each other.

The fight went on for several minutes before officials were finally able to separate both sides and the game continued.
