Nearly 100 jobs are under threat at a Scots sausage factory which is facing closure.
Around 90 jobs are at risk at a sausage casing production factory after it was announced that it is set to close.
Bosses at Devro in Bellshill say they have carried out a review of all its sites across the world and concluded that it has “excess infrastructure”.
The food collagen company, which makes casings for sausages, is now consulting with staff members affected by the closure of the North Lanarkshire plant.
They say around 90 jobs will be lost with Devro now seeking to increase the range of products produced at its site in nearby Moodiesburn , which was recently handed a £2m investment.
It added that the company “needs to continue improving competitiveness and provide the right platform for future growth.”
Rutger Helbing, CEO at Devro said: “ Scotland will remain strategically important to Devro's global operations. However, the collagen market is evolving and we must look at how we manage our business and stay competitive.
“Decisions like this are never easy. I know this will be an uncertain time for many colleagues, their families and the wider community. Our priority now is to ensure we have the right support in place for those who may be affected by these plans.”
