Saul Niguez's seven-word response on Atletico Madrid exit amid Chelsea transfer rumours

Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez has given a brilliant response to rumours he could be leaving the Spanish club amid links with Chelsea.

The Spaniard has been rumoured to be a target for Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea for the last few months, with current employers Atleti reportedly open to letting him go.

That certainly seemed the case with Diego Simeone electing to sign Udinese star Rodrigo De Paul last week, leaving his midfield options at the Wanda Metropolitano somewhat bloated.

More rumours started swirling last week that Saul could also potentially be used in a swap deal with Barcelona that would see the midfielder make the switch to the Camp Nou, whilst Antoine Griezmann would go the other way and return to Atletico Madrid.

Now, Saul has given his response to constant talk over his future in footage captured by Spanish outlet Marca.

Surrounded by supporters imploring him to stay, the 19-time Spanish international jokingly responded by saying: “They already kick me out of here.”

Of course, Saul’s statement could certainly be him attempting to have his own fun with the rumours but it will certainly pique the interest of a few in west London.

The 26-year-old has been a constant star for Atleti since his breakthrough season in 2014. He has gone on to make 337 appearances for the La Liga giants, scoring 43 goals in all competitions.

However, a clue was given regarding his future last season with his starting role not always secure, having made just 22 starts in the league during 2020/21.

He still has five years left to run on his bumper contract at the Wanda Metropolitano.
