Saul Niguez confirms new club to boost Arsenal fans' excitement over Thomas Partey transfer

The wait is over, Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez has made his announcement.

Last weekend the Spain international got many talking as he posted a cryptic social media message hinting at joining a new club.

Having been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United for a number of years, the general feeling at the time was that this could be the year in which the Red Devils finally landed their man.

However, as it has turned out, that's not the case at all and Saul is not bound for Old Trafford or even a move away from the Spanish capital.

Instead, the midfielder has revealed the creation of a new football team in Elche.

The announcement was made via social media on Wednesday morning with Saul confirming that he and his brother, Aarón, have created a new football team called Costa City club, based in Elche, which will bring together more than 30 teams and more than 500 players of all categories (between 4 and 18 years old) in the city of Elche.

Whilst many may have been disappointed with the content of Saul's announcement, it could be great news for Arsenal.

It's no secret that the Gunners have been linked with a move for Saul's teammate at Atletico in Thomas Partey.

So confirmation that the former is unlikely to be leaving Diego Simeone's side in the summer transfer window does at least boost Arsenal's chances of signing the Ghana international.

Losing Saul would have strengthened the La Liga outfit's resolve to hang on to the Partey which in turn would have been bad news for the Gunners and head coach Mikel Arteta.

Partey-Saul has been the go-to central midfield partnership for Simeone this season and it would have been a bizarre move on their behalf if they were open to the idea of parting company with both in the same summer.

As it stands, this announcement has done Arsenal's chances of signing Partey no harm.
