Saul Niguez confirms new club and ends Manchester United fans' excitement

After three days of teasing social media posts, Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez has finally announced his 'new team'.

On Sunday Saul revealed on social media that he would be announcing a 'new club' on Wednesday June 3, leading to some United fans rather unrealistically dreaming that he could be making a move to Manchester in the next transfer window.

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand ramped up the speculation after urging the club to sign Saul in April, responding to Saul's tweet with a shifty-eyes emoji and sending fans into a frenzy.

However, the chances of him announcing a move to United on Wednesday were always slim to zero and the midfielder announced the creation of a new football club in Elche, rather than announcing a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano.

Saul announced on social media that he and his brother Aarón have created a new football team called Club Costa City, based in Elche, which will bring together more than 30 teams and more than 500 players of all categories (between 4 and 18 years old) in the city of Elche.

Saul signed a nine-year contract at Atletico in 2017 and is believed to have a buy-out clause well in excess of £100million.

United scouted Saul in January 2014 while David Moyes was manager, with Phil Neville travelling to Spain to watch the then 19-year-old playing for Rayo Vallecano during a loan spell away from Atletico.
