Saul considering Atletico Madrid transfer as Man Utd and City keep tabs on situation

Atletico Madrid face a battle to keep hold of Saul Niguez this summer with Manchester City , Manchester United and Barcelona all keen on the midfielder.

Mirror Sport previously revealed the Atletico midfielder had emerged as City boss Pep Guardiola's No.1 transfer target this summer.

Atletico have slapped a £130m buy-out clause on Saul, who has been identified as a long-term replacement for Fernandinho at the Etihad.

The 24-year-old signed a new long-term contract with the Spaniards two years ago that will keep him at the club until June 2026.

But that hasn’t stopped speculation linking him with a move elsewhere, and Spanish daily AS have reported on Wednesday that he is considering his future.

It is claimed that while Atletico are desperate to keep hold of their prized asset, Saul is open to a fresh start.

Barcelona have long admired the player, while United recently entered the race with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer eyeing midfield reinforcements.

Saul has been forced to play in an unfamiliar left-back role this season, with boss Diego Simeone suffering a defensive injury crisis.

The Spain international is also among the players reportedly angered by the salary divide between Antoine Griezmann and the rest of the squad.

Atletico are desperate to keep hold of Saul, and are even considering offering him new terms, but it remains to be seen whether he’ll commit.
