
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz issued a royal decree on Friday to set up a new Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, separating it from the Ministry of Energy.
The Kingdom named Bandar Alkhorayef to lead the new ministry.
The new ministry will assume its duties at the beginning of the 2020 fiscal year. Until then, the responsibilities will be handled by the Ministry of Energy, said the decree.
In another decree, King Salman appointed Fad bin Mohammed Al-Essa as chief of the royal court at the rank of minister.
He also relieved Dr. Khaled bin Abdulmohsen Al-Muhaisen from his post as head of the National Anti-corruption Commission, replacing him with Mazen bin Ibrahim bin Mohammed al-Kahmous.
He also ordered that the Riyadh Development Authority be transformed into a royal authority. Its board of directors would be chaired by the deputy prime minister.
Another decree called for the establishment of the Saudi data and artificial intelligence authority. Its board of directors would be chaired by the deputy prime minister. The board members will include the minister of interior, national security adviser, minister of commerce and industry, minister of finance, minister of communication and information technology, minister of economy and planning, head of general intelligence and the national security chief.
King Salman ordered that the Riyadh Development Authority be transformed into a Royal Commission under the name "The Royal Commission for the City of Riyadh".
The Commission will have a board of directors chaired by the deputy prime minister, and its members will be appointed by order of the Prime Minister. All tasks related to major national projects in Riyadh will be transferred from the Committee of Major National Projects to the Royal Commission for the City of Riyadh.
