The Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen (SDRPY) has successfully completed several projects to support the water sector in the war-torn country.

This includes establishing a 20km potable water pipeline in the Ghaida directorate in al-Mahra province, a project to dig over 40 wells throughout Yemen and setting up water storage reservoirs and dams.

SDRPY completed a number of projects to produce potable water through the drilling of wells in al-Mahra.

The Program announced that solar power techniques were used in the design and drilling of these wells, which began to meet the water needs of the residents in the province.

The most recent wells to begin operation are in Tenhalen and Dethort in al-Ghaida.

Director of the Program in al-Mahra, Abdulhadi al-Qahtani, inaugurated a number of wells working on solar energy within a group of wells planned to be established.

Qahtani explained that the program provides a guarantee of sustainability through solar energy and the provision of permanent water tanks, in addition to several trials that were successful in pumping water to the people.

Qahtani noted that SDRPY supports the governorate, as well as various different Yemeni regions, in coordination with the government and local authority in the province, and under the guidance of the general supervisor of the Program, Saudi Ambassador Mohammed bin Said Al Jaber.
