Saudi Arabia received since the beginning of 2020, 1,000 ships carrying 25 million tons of cargo, as Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) aims to facilitate import and export operations and logistic services in the country.
According to the statistical index issued by Mawani, the number of ships received by Saudi ports during the same month was 1038 vessels with 122,000 passengers, while the number of vehicles reached 87,000 vehicles carrying 64,000 head of cattle.
Mawani seeks to support and facilitate import and export operations and logistic services in the Kingdom, making them more flexible and competitive. The Authority also aims to enhance the services at the ports and raise their level of performance, productivity, and operational and logistical capabilities, to achieve goals of Vision 2030.
Last November, Mawani revealed ‘Logistics’ initiative to provide 45,000 direct and indirect jobs, at a time when investment opportunities in the logistical areas owned by the Authority reached approximately $1.8 billion.
Vision 2030 aims to enhance the partnership between the public and private sectors in the port sector, by increasing private sector investments with long-term contracts. This will enhance the operational efficiency of infrastructure and benefit from investments.
It also seeks to raise private sector participation to 70 percent this year.
Saudi ports are currently contributing to achieving the national strategic goals, by increasing the share of non-oil exports of GDP from 16 percent to 50 percent, which will raise the Kingdom's global ranking on the index performance of logistics services to become among the top 25 countries.
Mawani holds at least 75 percent of the volume of Saudi non-oil trade.
