Saudi Minister of State for African Affairs Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Qattan has said that Riyadh donated 100 million euros to support Africa’s Sahel region.

Qattan made the announcement on Thursday during the opening ceremony of the Coordination Conference of G5 Sahel Partners and Funders for Financing of Priority Investment Programme (PIP) for (2019-2021) in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott.

The five Sahel states are Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali and Niger.

Qattan said the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz has ordered 100 million euros to support the group of five, adding that half of this amount will be allocated to support priority investments of the G5 in Africa's Sahel region.

Western donors said Thursday they have pledged 2.4 billion euros in funding.
