Riyadh’s Specialized Criminal Court held on Wednesday the first session to tackle the case file of Saudi nationals targeting a Danish resident about three and a half years ago, plotting to attack other American residents in the Tabuk region, attempting to kill a French resident visiting an archaeological scene in the province of Tayma, and plotting to target local officials.
Six Saudi defendants who joined a terrorist organization involved in the case were prosecuted, a Public Prosecution statement said.
A Danish citizen living the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, was shot in December 2014 by an unidentified source after leaving his car at the company's headquarters in Riyadh. The victim was shot in the shoulder and chest.
Security forces arrested the perpetrators of the attack, three Saudi citizens, one of which was the shooter.
Both the driver of a vehicle carrying the shooter, and another member documenting the attack were also arrested.
The first defendant is charged with stalking a Danish national during daytime activities such as departing the workplace—two others are also involved with plotting the attack. More so, the first defendant is charged with attempted murder for firing a weapon at the Danish citizen staying in the kingdom.
The victim sustained serious injury due to the attack—with the perpetrators having taken violent action inspired by ISIS radical ideology.
Social media accounts related to the attackers display striking support for terror group ISIS, with the first defendant having explicitly expressed a desire to leave to Syria in hopes of fighting along terror militias.
The third defendant is accused of collaborating with the shooter and the driver in planning and monitoring the victim.
More so, the he has plotted to disrupt public order by filming and spreading the terrorist crime.
