Control teams working under the Saudi Ministry of Commerce and Investment carried out over 10,000 inspection rounds in the past few days.
These inspections covered sales outlets across the Kingdom, and targeted warehouse suppliers, merchants, wholesale and retail outlets for food and basic goods, and centers selling medical products.
The main aim of these inspections included ensuring the availability of quantities that meet consumers’ needs and preventing black market trade and a hike in prices.
“These inspections are in line with the framework of efforts exerted by the supervisory teams to carry out their tasks in controlling markets in all regions of the Kingdom, monitoring the rationing situation, controlling cases of fraud and manipulation, and imposing systematic penalties on violators according to commercial regulations,” a statement by the Commerce and Investment Ministry said.
The ministry also called on consumers to report violations whenever spotted.
Citizens and residents responded positively to the precautionary measures provided by the Saudi government given that they place the safety of the consumer first.
Reports stressed that the movement of commercial markets is smooth and stable without any shortage in consumer products and food staples at the level of offered quantities.
Authorities across the Kingdom have imposed a series of precautionary measures that included the sterilization of hypermarkets and requiring workers to wear gloves and masks.
Minister of Commerce Dr. Majid Al-Qasabi had visited a number of markets in Riyadh to evaluate the supply situation and ensuring that there are enough supplies of food items in the Kingdom.
