Saudi MAWANI Reports 15% Increase in Food Imports, Exports

Saudi ports reported an increase in the total food exports and imports from the beginning of the year until the end of May 2020. (SPA)

Saudi ports, supervised by the General Ports Authority MAWANI, reported an increase in the total food exports and imports from the beginning of this year until the end of May 2020.

They registered 12 million tons, an increase of 15 percent, compared to the same period of the previous year.

The Jeddah Islamic Port came first in handling food imports and exports, at 5 million tons, followed by the King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam with 4.2 million tons, then the Yanbu Commercial Port with more than 895,000 tons and the Jubail Commercial Port with more than 509,000 tons.

This remarkable rise is a proof of the effective operating plans and precautionary measures carried out by MAWANI, in cooperation with various relevant government sectors, since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

It also confirms the effectiveness of operations around the clock amid the challenges. This contributed in meeting supply chain demands and guaranteeing an abundance of food and consumer goods.

The General Authority of Ports achieved in May an increase of handled goods at 28 million tons, which is a rise of 6.3 percent compared to the same period last year.
