
The engineering teams of the Saudi Project for Landmines Clearance in Yemen (MASAM), launched by King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief), cleared during the first week of January, 2,427 landmines planted by the Iran-backed Houthis militia in several Yemeni regions.
KSRelief announced that the landmines included 110 antipersonnel mines, 1,684 anti-tank mines, 608 unexploded ordnance and 25 explosive devices.
MASAM has dismantled at least 303,279 mines since its launch. More than 1.2 million mines have been planted by the militias in the country.
In Aden, the engineers removed 287 anti-tank mines and 122 unexploded ordnance, while in Hodeidah, they cleared one antipersonnel mine, 510 anti-tank mines, 11 unexploded ordnance and two explosive devices.
Also, the project removed 14 anti-tank mines in the governorate of Lahij and 180 unexploded ordnance in the governorate of Marib.
The teams announced that they cleared 293 unexploded ordnance, 105 antipersonnel mines and 217 anti-tank mines in Shabwa and seven anti-tank mines in Taiz.
MASAM seeks to clear Yemen of the mines that were randomly planted by the Houthis, causing hundreds of deaths and injuries among the Yemeni population.
