Labor courts across Saudi Arabia have held more than 37,000 hearings since their official launch in October, according to the ministry of justice.

Labor courts started operating in the Kingdom as part of the ministry’s plans to set up specialized courts to boost, support and organize the labor market.

The Kingdom has been focused on growing and developing the investment climate in Saudi Arabia as part of Vision 2030 to diversify the economy, and the labor market has always been at the core of these developments.

The courts were also launched to offer efficiency and accessibility through digital transformation.

“The procedures and services are made available online, clients can access our portal in order to get notifications, understand procedures, and follow the progress of cases,” says the ministry. “We are trying to minimize the paper work through the introduction of these highly digitized courts and believe that we have succeeded”.

The ministry is working towards raising awareness on how labor courts operate using different awareness channels. “We are keen to utilize all communication platforms, including organizing events, digital and offline platforms, in order to raise awareness on labor judiciary as well as workers’ rights in the Kingdom,” said the ministry.

The number of sessions held at labor courts are a sign that more employers and employees are becoming aware of the steps, procedures and timeframes on filing and following up on cases in such courts.
