Saudi King’s Personal Bodyguard Shot Dead by Friend

Major General Abdulaziz al-Faghm with King Salman.

The personal bodyguard of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz was shot dead by his friend after a dispute.

The Saudi Press Agency said Major General Abdulaziz al-Faghm was visiting a friend, Turki bin Abdulaziz al-Sabti, at his house in Jeddah. Another friend, Mamdouh bin Meshaal Al Ali then came to the house.

A dispute soon erupted between Faghm and Al Ali. The latter left the house briefly and returned with a firearm and shot Faghm, said the Makkah police department.

Faghm succumbed to his injuries at hospital.

Sabti and a Filipino worker were injured in the attack.

A shootout ensued when security forces came to the scene and when Al Ali refused to turn himself in.

Ali was killed and five members of security were wounded.

An investigation has since been launched in the case.

Faghm previously served as the bodyguard to King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.

After his passing, he came to serve King Salman.
