The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, received at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh on Monday US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
During the meeting, they reviewed historical relations between the two friendly countries and the latest developments in the Middle East, SPA said.
The meeting was attended by Saudi Ambassador to Washington Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of State and Cabinet Member Dr. Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al-Assaf, and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, the agency said.
US Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Satterfield, Chargé d'Affaires at the United States Embassy to the Kingdom Christopher Henzel, Special Representative for Syria Engagement James Jeffrey and a number of officials also attended the talks.
Pompeo also visited Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is also Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense.
During the meeting, they reviewed the aspects of strategic partnership between the two countries and the latest regional and international developments, SPA said.
But Pompeo cut short the rest of his Middle East trip to attend a family funeral, a State Department spokesman said.
He will return home after meetings in Oman instead of traveling on to Kuwait, deputy spokesman Robert Palladino said.
The top US diplomat looks forward to visiting the country "at an agreeable time in the near future", he added.
Other than Riyadh, Pompeo's eight-day trip to the Middle East included stops in Amman, Cairo, Manama, Abu Dhabi and Doha.
