Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dr. Mohammad Saleh Banten announced on Monday new details of plans for the gradual resumption of the Umrah pilgrimage.

He said Saudi Arabia was in the process of gradually resuming the Umrah by taking precautionary health measures given the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic.

The plan will be based on technical solutions that allow companies and institutions to develop their services and market them locally and globally, he added.

These solutions will rely on the ministry’s dedicated Umrah app whereby applicants may submit requests to perform the Umrah through the portal.

Banten said his ministry will support investors and workers in the sector, especially amid the pandemic and during the transitional phase that will see Umrah companies and institutions develop into strong economic entities.

The companies service some 16 million Umrah pilgrims from within the Kingdom - Saudis and residents alike - and abroad, he continued.

“We aspire to welcome 30 million pilgrims annually by 2030,” he added.
