Saudi FM: Iran's Hardline Approach at Vienna Talks Cause for Concern

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah said on Tuesday that the Iran nuclear negotiations in Vienna do not inspire optimism.

Speaking at a press conference at the conclusion of the 42nd Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) that was hosted by Riyadh, he added that it appears Iran is adopting a hardline approach at the talks.

"This is a cause for concern," he remarked.

"We are seeking a long-term and comprehensive deal with Iran and we hope the negotiations are a success," he stressed.

Moreover, he said: "We want to have normal relations with Iran, and this depends on it."

The Gulf countries are following the talks in Vienna and "we have previously said that we must be present at the negotiations," stated Prince Faisal.

"Gulf countries are the most threatened by Iran's nuclear program," he went on to say.

"We have not sensed any shift in position by the Iran government towards the Gulf," he continued.
