Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir held talks on the latest regional and international developments with his Russian counterpart Serge Lavrov in Moscow on Wednesday.
He described the talks as “fruitful,” saying that Saudi-Russian ties have achieved a qualitative shift in the past three years.
Discussions covered Syria and the importance of implementing United Nations Security Council resolution 2254 and reaching a political solution that would maintain the country’s territorial integrity, withdrawal of foreign militias and ensure the rights of the people, Jubeir told a press conference in Moscow.
Addressing the conflict in Yemen, the Saudi minister stressed that the political solution there should be based on the three references: The Gulf initiative, national dialogue outcomes and Security Council resolution 2216.
Saudi Arabia is coordinating with UN special envoy to Yemen Marin Griffiths and friendly nations, including Russia, to this end, he added.
On the Iran nuclear deal, Jubeir said that the Kingdom deems the 2015 pact as weak, noting that it did not cover Tehran’s support for terrorism and violations of UN resolutions on its ballistic missiles program.
In this regard, he declared that the Kingdom supports imposing more sanctions against Iran.
