Saudi FM Discusses Syria, Libya in Rome

Saudi FM Prince Faisal meets EU's Borrell in Rome. (SPA)

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held talks in Rome on Monday with United Nations envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen.

He also held separate meetings with his counterparts from the Netherlands, Sigrid Kaag; France, Jean-Yves Le Drian; Libya, Najla al-Mangoush; Iraq, Dr. Fuad Hussein; and Jordan, Ayman al-Safadi.

Prince Faisal was in Rome to attend the ministerial meeting of international anti-ISIS coalition.

With Pedersen, the minister discussed the latest developments in the Syrian crisis and political efforts to resolve it. They tackled coordination between Saudi Arabia and the UN to consolidate regional and international security and stability.

Talks with the foreign ministers of Jordan, Iraq and the Netherlands focused on bilateral relations and ways to boost them in all fields. They also covered regional and international developments of interest.

With Mangoush, Prince Faisal tackled Saudi-Libyan ties and ways to boost them in all fields. They underscored international efforts to support security and stability in Libya so that it can enjoy development and prosperity.

Prince Faisal also met with European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on the sidelines of a ministerial meeting on Syria. The meeting was held at the invitation of the United States and Italy.

Talks with Borell focused on relations between the Kingdom and the EU and ways to boost them in all fields. They stressed the importance of supporting international efforts aimed at restoring security and stability in Syria and backing all peaceful solutions that bring justice to the Syrian people.

They underlined the need to stop all Iranian meddling in Syria that is destabilizing the country and region.

They reviewed various regional and international issues of common interest.
