Yemen: SDRPY Improves Muhra’s Electricity Grid

The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) has boosted its preparations in al-Muhra Governorate to improve electricity grids, raise their efficiency, and enhance the capacity of generation stations.

The project aims at addressing power cuts and high electrical loads, in light of the high temperature, weak infrastructure for electricity facilities, and increased consumption in the summer season.

SDRPY has been implementing a number of projects to improve internal electricity grid cables in al-Ghaydah city and other areas in Muhra.

Electrical projects in the governorate include rehabilitating the electricity grid in Ghaydah, which involves the construction of a new grid for the medium and low voltage with high specifications including cables and transformers for the commercial market area in the governorate.

The project aims to raise the capacity of the electric current to boost the electrical grid peformance, reduce interruptions and effects of weather conditions and raise the ability to absorb new loads at both sites.

The SDRPY projects in the governorate also include one to raise the production capacity of the current power plant, by adding 10 megawatts and five lifting transformers to reduce frequent interruptions and the inability to absorb the high demand for electricity.

The program plans to increase the monthly support provided to Muhra to about 4,800 tons due to increased demand amid ongoing power cuts.
