Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan. SPA

Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan has directed for the establishment of art academies as part of the Quality of Life Program's initiatives, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Sunday.

The establishment of such academies also comes in line with the ministry's efforts in contributing to the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

The minister stressed that investment in capacity building is one of the most important elements in encouraging the cultural sector, which enjoys unlimited support from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, SPA said.

The minister added that the Kingdom is rich in arts and talents.

According to the news agency, in the first phase, there will be an art academy specialized in heritage, traditional arts and crafts, and will start receiving applications in autumn of 2020 by targeting 1,000 students and trainees in long and short-term programs.

A second academy will be dedicated to music, and will receive 1,000 students and trainees starting in 2021, SPA added.
