
Saudi Culture Minister Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan has appointed Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Asim as head of the Libraries Authority.
Al-Asim will be responsible for the development of the libraries sector.
The Authority’s role will include setting a strategy, and rules and regulations for the libraries sector, in addition to coordinating the promotion of reading by enhancing the services of libraries.
Al-Asim has served the cultural sector by managing book fairs. He is currently the manager of the Riyadh International Bookfair.
The Libraries Authority will be the official body that issues licenses for relevant activities. It will also build a database for the libraries sector, encourage financing and investment, organize conferences and events, and provide professional training programs for those interested in the field.
The Authority is one of 11 new bodies launched by the Culture Ministry.
