Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, received on Friday a telephone call from US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, reported the Saudi Press Agency.
Talks focused on bilateral relations and ways to boost them, especially in the defense field. They also tackled the latest regional developments.
Austin stressed to the Crown Prince the importance of the strategic defense partnership between Saudi Arabia and the US, underscoring the Kingdom’s pivotal role in the security and stability of the region.
He reiterated Washington’s condemnation of the attacks carried out by the Iran-backed Houthi militias in Yemen against Saudi Arabia.
The US is committed to defending Saudi Arabia defend itself, Austin stressed.
Moreover, he expressed to the Crown Prince his gratitude for the Kingdom’s efforts to reach a political solution to the crisis in Yemen.
He also underlined the joint Saudi-American approach in confronting the Iranian regime’s destabilizing acts and in defeating terrorist organizations in the region.
