A Turkish sailor is rescued by Saudi border guards. (Asharq Al-Awsat)

Saudi border guards in the eastern region rescued on Saturday a Turkish sailor at sea after he suffered from a medical emergency.

A border guards spokesman said that the security force had received from Turkish authorities a plea to rescue the sailor, who was on board a trade vessel off the Dammam coast.

The sailor, 28, required immediate evacuation to receive medical treatment.

The border guards determined the location of the ship, which was anchored some 16 nautical miles off the King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam.

The ship was escorted to the port and the sailor was transported to hospital with the assistance of the Saudi Red Crescent.
