Saudi Attorney General Orders Separation of Follow-up, Inspection Departments

Attorney General Sheikh Saud bin Abdullah Al-Mua'jab, Asharq Al-Awsat

Attorney General Sheikh Saud bin Abdullah Al-Mua'jab issued directives ordering the separation of the follow-up and inspection departments, giving each its independence. Administratively, both departments will continue to answer to the attorney general directly.

Mua’jab reaffirmed the importance of the work conducted by the follow-up department, saying that its separation and ensuing development, through introducing modern technologies to its hierarchal and communications systems, will make the department better aligned with the Kingdom Vision 2030 for national transformation.

At a meeting with government officials, Mua’jab also pointed that the royal order to rebrand the office as Public Prosecution and having it answer directly to King Salman Bin Abdulaziz is significant in terms of separating between the Kingdom’s executive authority and the public prosecution.

Such a measure guarantees each of the bodies enjoys impartiality and impunity from influence of the other.

According to Mua’jab, the decision to grant each of the follow-up and inspection departments independence from each other stems out of keenness to upgrade the work of public institutions and tackle discrepancies.

He pointed out that the follow-up department’s work and achievements have been given close attention by King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, saying that the Kingdom’s leadership aims at making Saudi Arabia into an international-level leading model.

Mua’jab thanked both the King and Crown Prince for the trust, attention and care received by Public Prosecution.
