Saudi Arabia welcomed on Friday the United Nations Security Council’s adoption of a resolution on Yemen that would see the deployment of a team to monitor a truce that was recently reached between the legitimate government and Iran-backed Houthi militias.
Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dr. Khalid Manzlawi said that resolution 2451 underscores “Saudi diplomatic efforts and their direct impact on international community decisions.”
He cited to that end the efforts of Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir and Saudi Permanent Representative to the UN Abdullah al-Mouallimi.
Manzlawi pointed out that the resolution supports the agreements reached during last week’s peace consultations in Sweden and emphasizes the implementation of resolution 2216, which is committed to the three references of the political solution in Yemen.
The three references are the national dialogue outcomes, Gulf initiative and resolution 2216.
Saudi Ambassador to Yemen Mohammed al-Jaber said resolution 2451 was a “new diplomatic success” for the Arab coalition after the military pressure that was exerted on the Houthis to accept political agreements.
The Security Council on Friday unanimously approved the deployment of a UN advance team to Yemen to monitor the Sweden ceasefire agreement.
