Saudi Arabia's foreign ministry said on Tuesday it welcomed the "positive points" in a statement by Lebanon's prime minister over the weekend.

It hoped that it would help in restoring Lebanon's position and standing in the Arab world and internationally.

It stressed that Saudi Arabia hopes for security and peace to prevail in Lebanon and for its brotherly people to live in stability and safety.

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati discussed in a phone call with Kuwait's foreign minister, Sheikh Ahmad Nasser al-Mohammad al-Sabah, efforts to return Lebanese-Gulf relations to normal, Mikati's office said in a statement on Saturday.

On Monday, Mikati reiterated his government's commitment to returning Lebanon's ties with the Gulf Cooperation Council countries back to normal.

It is committed to taking the necessary and required measures to boost cooperation with Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states, he continued.

Lebanon is committed to all Arab League decisions and international resolutions, he continued.

He urged the need to cease all political, military, security and media activities that are launched from Lebanon and that harm the sovereignty of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries.

Beirut is committed to the Kuwait initiative proposed to resolve the rift with the Gulf, he remarked.

Gulf Arab relations with Lebanon have suffered over Iran-backed Hezbollah's growing power in Beirut and the region.
