Saudi Arabia welcomed on Saturday Egypt’s efforts to resolve the Libyan conflict.

Earlier on Saturday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced a new peace initiative for Libya that proposed a ceasefire starting Monday.

Riyadh stressed it welcomes all international efforts that call for a ceasefire in the North African country and a return to the political process in line with relevant United Nations resolutions and various initiatives, including the Berlin and Geneva conferences.

Out of its keenness on easing conflicts in the region, preserving the territorial integrity of Arab nations and protecting them from foreign meddling, Saudi Arabia urged all Libyan parties, starting with the Government of National Accord and Libyan National Army to prioritize Libya’s national interests.

They must immediately cease hostilities and launch urgent comprehensive political UN-sponsored negotiations in order to restore Libya’s security and stability and protect it from foreign interference.
