Saudi Arabia Welcomes Ceasefire Agreement in Libya

A general view of Riyadh on Saudi National Day. (SPA)

Saudi Arabia welcomed on Friday the Libyan warring factions’ signing of a “permanent” ceasefire agreement.

The Foreign Ministry said Riyadh hopes that the deal will pave the way for the success of understandings, especially political and economic ones.

It also hoped it will pave the way for a new era of security, peace, sovereignty and stability in the North African country.

Libya's two warring factions signed the ceasefire agreement across the country on Friday following five days of talks at the United Nations in Geneva, the UN's Libya mission said.

The accord, concluded after talks between military representatives of Fayez al-Sarraj's Government of National Accord (GNA) and the Libyan National Army (LNA) of Khalifa Haftar, will be followed by political discussions in Tunisia next month.
