Saudi Arabia vs Egypt LIVE World Cup 2018: VAR penalty after Mohamed Salah goal - latest score, goals and updates plus prediction, how to watch online
Saudi Arabia and Egypt are playing in a token World Cup match after both teams were consigned to an early exit after losing their opening two games.
Mohamed Salah responded to claims his World Cup was over on Twitter, writing: “Everyone in Egypt is together and there is absolutely no disagreement between us. We respect each other and the relationship is great.”
The Liverpool and Egypt sensation missed Egypt’s first game against Uruguay and looked a shadow of the player he was in the 2018-19 season against Russia.
Salem Al Dawsari wins it for Saudi Arabia with the last kick of the game! Five seconds had been played over the allotted four minutes of stoppage time when the Villarreal midfielder manoeuvred his body in order to volley Abdullah Otayf's pass into the far corner. A dramatic end to a drab half of football!
90 mins: Saudi Arabia 1 Egypt 1: Meanwhile, the game in Volgograd has just entered four minutes of stoppage time. After a thrilling first 45 minutes, there has been very little to note in the second half.
It's all over in Samara! The result means Uruguay will take on the runners-up in Group B at the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi on Saturday night while Russia play the same group's winners in the capital, Moscow, on Sunday afternoon.
Finally! Edinson Cavani has a goal and Uruguay seal top spot in Group A with a comprehensive win over the host nation in Samara. Giorgian de Arrascaeta curled in a corner from the right, met by a thumping Diego Godin header. Igor Akinfeev reacted quickly to push the ball out, but Cavani reacted even quicker to follow up with an instinctive tap in from five yards. It's a goal that confirms Uruguay as group winners, it could be the goal that kickstarts Cavani's competition.
88 mins: Uruguay 2 Russia 0: Aleksandr Samedov has the chance to deliver a free-kick into the Uruguayan box from a dangerous position on the right, but he goes all Edinson Cavani and sends it straight out of play. His teammates are furious, most notably Artem Dzyuba, who makes his view clear with some strong words.
85 mins: Uruguay 2 Russia 0: Substitute Fyodor Smolov has a go at emulating Suarez's run moments earlier by making inroads down the left himself. He weaves his way past two Uruguay defenders to take himself into the penalty area, but sends his low centre straight into the arms of Muslera. At the other end of the pitch, Cavani gets a shot wrong but that's nothing new.
82 mins: Uruguay 2 Russia 0: In the wrong place, at the wrong time, Cavani yet again is unable to get on the end of a promising Uruguay attack that had seen Suarez come off the left touchline to draw defenders away from the middle.
79 mins: Uruguay 2 Russia 0: After a short break in play to allow Lucas Torreira to receive treatment, Uruguay counter again. Martin Caceres' cross from the right is inviting, but it's just not happening for Cavani at this World Cup. The PSG striker throws himself at the delivery but fails to even make a connection.
73 mins: Uruguay 2 Russia 0: Almost! That could have been the moment for Russia to claw their way back into the contest, but it's been passed up by Dzyuba. Played in by Roman Zobnin on the right, the striker cut back inside substitute Cristian Rodriguez to give himself sight of goal, only to curl his shot well wide of the target. It's arguably Russia's best chance of the game, and certainly their best since they went down to ten men.
71 mins: Uruguay 2 Russia 0: The Atmosphere has picked up again even if the Russian performance hasn't. Encouraged by coach Stanislav Cherchesov on the touchline, the home fans are roaring their country on. Can they inspire a most unlikely comeback in the final 20 minutes?
65 mins: Uruguay 2 Russia 0: Cavani takes a tumble in the area under pressure from Ilya Kutepov, but referee Malang Diedhiou isn't interested. VAR do take a look, but it turns out that ultimately they're not interested either.
62 mins: Uruguay 2 Russia 0: Rodrigo Bentancur receives a yellow card with his final act of this contest albeit an act unidentified by anyone on commentary. Seconds later, the Juventus midfielder is replaced by Giorgian De Arrascaeta in Uruguay's first substitution.
51 mins: Uruguay 2 Russia 0: The atmosphere among the Russian supporters inside the stadium is at such a contrast to where it was an hour ago. Two goals and a man down, the host nation suddenly appear vulnerable against decent opposition. With Spain likely to await in the knockout stages, it is no wonder there are so many concerned faces in the crowd.
Saudi Arabia vs Egypt kicks off at 15:00 at the Vologorad Arena.
Where can I watch it?
ITV will be showing live coverage on ITV 4 and online on the ITV hub.
Odds
Saudi Arabia: 5/6
Egypt: 15/4
Draw: 13/5
Prediction
0-0. There’s very little to play for and even less quality on show. Even if Egypt start with Salah, who has shown he is clearly unfit, they lack the creativity to break down defences, including teams a poor as Saudi Arabia.
