Saudi Arabia, USA Discuss Energy-Water Relation Via Major MoU

The Saudi-US agreement signed in the field of energy has become a global model for international energy agreements.

The details of this agreement reveal that the Kingdom and the United States will cooperate in several fields, including the relationship between energy and water.

The agreement, which was signed between the US Department of Energy and the Saudi Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources, is one of the most effective international agreements for constructive cooperation and optimal investment in the field of energy.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU), according to the announced details on Friday, aims at putting a framework of bilateral cooperation in the field of energy.

Meanwhile, it includes several areas of cooperation: CO2-generating electricity turbines at ultra-high temperatures and pressures, carbon capture, use and storage, cyclic combustion, combustion of pure oxygen fuel, and water-energy relationship.

In accordance with the agreement, the parties shall establish a plan of action for each of the areas of cooperation set out in the MoU. They shall also amend these plans according to the available capacities.

The parties shall identify the areas and projects suitable for the joint research and development, which are to be implemented in the future.

The two sides shall work on implementing this MoU by means of exchanging of experts, engineers and specialists in this field, exchanging of relevant scientific and technical information, encouraging visits and mutual meetings, organizing seminars and workshops (such as research laboratories, research institutes and industrial sites) and transferring the technologies by a written agreement, the MoU states.

It points out that each party shall designate, on paper, a focal point responsible for facilitating the procedures and following-up of the activities set forth in this MoU.

The Parties shall also invite representatives of governmental or non-governmental bodies from both countries to participate in the activities mentioned in the agreement.
