Saudi Arabia announced Thursday that it will host a Formula One race in the Red Sea city of Jeddah in November next year.
The Kingdom said it will host the race using scenic roads along the coast.
The announcement was made on the Jeddah waterfront as Minister of Sport Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal said that the race would increase the number of tourists to the Kingdom.
“Welcome to Formula 1 and welcome to the champions," Prince Abdulaziz said.
The Kingdom will host the race with a direct support from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defense.
“Motorsports for us is very important,” Prince Khalid bin Sultan al-Faisal, chairman of the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation, told The Associated Press in an interview.
“We would like to host these events as long as we can because our local people here in Saudi Arabia like to attend these events and be entertained and meet people from all around the world.”
