Saudi Arabia Suspends Classes in al-Qatif for 2 Weeks over Coronavirus

A general view of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. (AFP)

Saudi Arabia suspended on Saturday classes at schools, universities and various educational institutions in al-Qatif region over the new coronavirus, reported the Saudi Press Agency.

The Ministry of Education said classes will be suspended for two weeks, starting Sunday.

The move is part of precautions to prevent the spread of the virus in the Kingdom.

Classes will be taught online throughout this period.

The Health Ministry registered two cases of the virus on Saturday.

One was detected in a female citizen who had returned to the Kingdom through Bahrain after she had traveled to Iran. She had failed to disclose to Saudi authorities her presence in Iran.

The second patient, also female, had returned to Saudi Arabia from Iraq’s Najaf through the United Arab Emirates. She too did not disclose her destination to authorities.
