Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed on Saturday that the Kingdom spares no effort in supporting Iraq on all levels.

Prince Faisal was in Iraq to attend the Baghdad Cooperation and Partnership Conference that has brought together Arab heads of state and senior officials from the region.

The FM underscored the Saudi government’s commitment to supporting Iraq’s stability and development.

The summit, he stated, is being held a time when challenges are demanding “that we increase the level of coordination.”

He noted that Saudi Arabia is continuing its coordination with Iraq to counter extremism. He hailed in this regard the role of the Iraqi government in controlling the possession of arms of various militias.

Moreover, Prince Faisal stressed that dialogue was the Kingdom’s preferred approach in handling any regional or international differences.

The FM held talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi on the sidelines of his visit.

French President Emmanuel Macron also attended the Baghdad meeting, hailing it as a major boost for Iraq and its leadership. The country had been largely shunned for the past few decades because of security concerns amid back-to-back wars and internal unrest, its airport frequently attacked with rockets by insurgents.

Leaders attending the summit included Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, the prime ministers of the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, and foreign ministers of Iran and Turkey.
