Saudi Arabia Says Has ‘Nothing to Do’ with Amazon Founder’s Scandal

Saudi State Minister for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir. (SPA)

Saudi State Minister for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir denied that the Kingdom was involved in the leak of the personal messages of Amazon.com Inc Chief Executive and Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos.

Saudi Arabia had "absolutely nothing to do" with the National Enquirer's reporting on the issue, he told CBS' "Face the Nation" in an interview that will be aired Sunday.

Bezos on Thursday accused American Media Inc (AMI), the Enquirer's owner, of trying to blackmail him with the threat of publishing "intimate photos" he allegedly sent to his girlfriend unless he said in public that the US tabloid's reporting on him was not politically motivated.

"This is something between the two parties, we have nothing to do with it," Jubeir stressed.

"It sounds to me like a soap opera," he said.

AMI said on Friday its reporting on Bezos was lawful and it would investigate his claims.
